Water Process Engineer
Porelio
About Us
We are an innovative materials science startup tackling two of this decade's most critical environmental challenges: securing critical resources for a circular economy and removing persistent pollutants from our water. Our proprietary technology platform enables selective molecular capture, transforming industrial waste into valuable materials and cleaning contaminated water at its source.
Operating from the heart of Germany's leading science ecosystem, we're building the technical foundation to scale our solutions globally. While metals recovery is our primary focus, we're also advancing a parallel mission against one of water's most insidious threats: persistent chemical contaminants. We're looking for the engineer who will transform laboratory potential into deployable protection for water supplies worldwide.
The Opportunity: Engineer Solutions for a Global Water Challenge
We're seeking a pragmatic Water Process Engineer to lead the development and deployment of our PFAS removal technology. This is where our advanced materials confront one of environmental engineering's most complex challenges. You'll translate our platform's capabilities into robust, field-ready processes that meet both regulatory requirements and real-world operational needs.
You won't just be testing materials; you'll be engineering complete water treatment solutions. Your work will create the bridge from promising adsorption data to systems that communities can trust to protect their water. This is a role for someone who understands that solving environmental problems requires equal parts scientific rigor, engineering pragmatism, and regulatory awareness.
Key Responsibilities
Process Development & Optimization
-
Design and execute rigorous batch and column testing for persistent contaminant removal using our proprietary materials
-
Develop and optimize complete treatment cycles, including adsorption, desorption, and contaminant concentration pathways
-
Engineer safe handling and processing protocols for concentrated contaminant streams
-
Translate fundamental material performance into predictable, scalable process parameters
Integrated System Design
-
Design and test synergistic treatment trains that combine adsorption with complementary technologies
-
Develop robust process configurations that handle complex water matrices and variable conditions
-
Create engineering guidelines for system integration, operation, and maintenance
-
Balance performance optimization with practical considerations of cost, reliability, and operator requirements
Real-World Validation & Compliance
-
Conduct challenge testing with diverse water sources to validate performance under realistic conditions
-
Generate the robust, compliance-ready data required for regulatory approval and customer confidence
-
Stay ahead of evolving regulatory landscapes across key markets (EU, US, and beyond)
-
Design testing protocols that simultaneously advance R&D and meet certification requirements
Pilot Development & Field Translation
-
Lead the design and execution of field pilot studies from concept through operation
-
Develop scale-up methodologies that maintain performance from benchtop to full-scale deployment
-
Create the critical feedback loop between field observations and next-generation process improvements
-
Support customer engagements with technical expertise and evidence-based recommendations
What We Offer
-
Competitive salary compensation with a potential for significant equity stake
-
Comprehensive benefits (transportation ticket, social)
-
Mission-critical ownership of a high-impact environmental application with growing regulatory urgency
-
Career-accelerating experience bridging advanced materials with real-world water treatment challenges
-
Direct customer and regulatory engagement from early development stages
-
Modern facilities in a premier science location with state-of-the-art equipment
-

Join Us: Where Separation Science Meets Resource Revolution
If you're the type of engineer who looks at a promising material and immediately envisions the complete treatment system, who understands that solving "forever chemical" problems requires permanent engineering solutions, and who wants to deploy protection where it's needed most—this is your opportunity. You won't just be removing contaminants; you'll be engineering confidence in water supplies and creating systems that communities can depend on for years to come.
Application Process: Please send your CV and a brief cover letter to info@porelio.com. In your letter, tell us about a time your operational excellence directly enabled a scientific or technical breakthrough. No formal cover letter required—a concise email explaining why this role resonates with you is perfect.
